About the fabric
This shirt was created using Pochampally ikat fabric.
Ikat is a resist dyeing technique which involves dyeing sections of bundled yarn to a predetermined color scheme prior to weaving. Thus the dye penetrates into the exposed section, while the tied section remains un-dyed. Once the yarns have been dyed the weaver lines them up on the loom. The design gradually takes form as the yarns are woven into cloth.
