William G. Archer was a British civil services officer who accidentally discovered Mithila art. He was inspecting the damages caused by the 1934 earthquake in the Madhubani region when he saw beautifully painted mud walls amongst the ruins. In 1949 he wrote an article for Marg magazine titled โMaithil Artโ which further popularised Madhubani art. โฃ
